In short: On Time Publication offers thesis editing services and PhD thesis proofreading for students at UK universities, carried out within your own university's proofreading policy. Most UK policies allow a third party to identify, and sometimes correct, errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar and consistency, but never to change your ideas, arguments, structure or data. So we work in the mode your rules allow (flag-only comments or tracked corrections), we ask you to confirm your supervisor's approval first, and we help you declare the help correctly. You remain the author of every word.

We are an online service based in the UK, run by a UK registered company, with no published address and no affiliation with any university. If you study outside the UK, for example in the Gulf or Jordan, our main thesis and dissertation editing page covers your situation.
There is no single national rule. Each university publishes its own policy, and they differ in detail. Here are five official examples, checked on 23 October 2026:
The common thread is simple. A proofreader may point out surface errors and, under some policies, correct them. Content, argument, structure, data and references stay with you. That is exactly the line we work to.
Because policies differ, we offer two modes and you choose the one your rules allow:
In both modes, formatting and reference checks are carried out only as far as your policy allows. Under Edinburgh's guidance, for example, we would not touch formatting or the reference list. You receive the marked-up file and a clean copy, so you keep before-and-after versions, as Edinburgh asks students to do. Please send us your policy with your first message. Oxford, for example, makes it the student's responsibility to give the proof-reader a copy.
Before you book any thesis proofreading service, do three things:
Searches for dissertation editing services in the UK often come from taught master's students, and here the rules are tighter. Oxford does not permit third-party proof-readers for work with a word limit under 10,000 words, and departments can rule out proof-reading for assessments that test language skills such as grammar or syntax. Leeds does not allow taught students to use paid services, although its policy notes that Disability Services may recommend paid support for disabled students. If your rules do not allow paid dissertation proofreading, we will tell you and decline the job. If proofreading has been approved as a reasonable adjustment, follow the terms agreed with your university's disability service. Oxford's policy, for example, does not apply in that case.
Your thesis is assessed as your own work. Our job is to help you present it clearly within the rules, not to change what it says.
Your thesis is handled confidentially (see our privacy policy), and we sign a non-disclosure agreement on request. Our editors are the On Time Publication Editorial Team: qualified researchers and subject-specialist editors with publishing experience, working across most academic disciplines. We reply quickly by email or WhatsApp. You can pay by Stripe, PayPal or bank transfer in GBP, USD and other currencies, and itemised invoices are available on request. See how pricing works and our process.
If your examiners ask for corrections after the viva, we can proofread the corrected text in the same way, within your policy. Many researchers then turn chapters into journal papers. You do that rewriting yourself, and our guide on how to turn a thesis into a journal article explains the steps. Once your article is drafted, our manuscript editing and proofreading service can help before submission.
Usually yes for a research thesis, within limits your university sets. Oxford, for example, accepts third-party proof-reading of longer work but only as advice on spelling, punctuation, formatting, grammar and syntax, and Manchester asks research students to talk to their supervisors first. Rules for taught courses and short assignments can be stricter, so always read your own university's policy before you book.
In flag-only mode we add comments that identify each problem, and you make every correction yourself. In tracked-corrections mode we correct permitted items, such as spelling, punctuation and grammar, directly in tracked changes, and add comments for anything larger. You choose the mode your university's policy allows. Where the rules only allow suggestions, we use flag-only mode.
Check your university's rules, but it is good practice everywhere. Manchester's guidance says research students should talk to their supervisors before using a third-party proofreader. We ask you to confirm that your supervisor knows about and has approved the editing before we start.
Often yes. UCL asks doctoral candidates to list support from professional proofreaders in the Doctoral Candidate Thesis Declaration Form, and Edinburgh's proofreading guidance says students should declare the use of a proofreader. Only if your university allows it. Some UK universities restrict third-party proofreading of taught work: Oxford does not permit it for work with a word limit under 10,000 words, and Leeds does not allow taught students to use paid services. Send us your rules first. If paid proofreading is not allowed, we will tell you and not take the job.
No. We never add content, rewrite passages, change your arguments or structure, check or change data, cut text to meet a word limit, or translate your work into English. Those limits match what UK university proofreading policies set out, and your thesis stays your own work.
Yes. We keep UK English spelling consistent unless your department asks for something else, and we work on Word, LaTeX and PDF files. Your thesis is matched to an editor who knows your field.
We do not publish fixed prices. You get a custom quote based on word count, field and deadline after a free assessment of a sample or your full thesis. We can invoice in GBP, as well as USD and other currencies, and itemised invoices are available on request.
Official university policies, checked on 23 October 2026. Policies change, so always read the current version from your own university and follow your supervisor's advice.
